SQL Permissions for RightFax 9.3

April 1st, 2008

At times, there may be confusion on what security rights and access rights the account that makes the connection to the RightFax SQL database must have. At all times, the account making the SQL connection must have DB Owner permissions on the RightFax database.

However, during the initial installation of RightFax 9.3 and installation of any Feature Pack and/or Service Release, the account MUST have sys-admin rights to the SQL server during this time. These rights are required because each update to the software includes modifications to SQL tables using CREATE, ALTER and DROP functions. Once the installation is complete, sys-admin rights can be removed from the SQL server for the account being used for the database connection.

Instant InfoSystems has successfully migrated RightFax 8.7 systems for many customers. We would like to assist you with your RightFax 9.3 upgrade and make it a seamless experience for your organization. To schedule your upgrade, please email us at info@instantinfo.com.

RightFax 9.3 and Office 2007

January 1st, 2008

RightFax 9.3 has added support for Microsoft Office 2007 in their latest Feature Pack update (Feature Pack 2). With this added support, there are a few items that must be setup to ensure the server is ready for the new version.

Once Office 2007 is installed on the RightFax server, each coversheet from the RightFaxFCS directory must be opened. Choose close when the “Show Repairs” dialog box is presented. If this is not completed, any outbound fax set to use a .DOC coversheet will fail conversion. Also, when sending an outbound fax with a .DOCX file attachment, the conversion process will fail. Save the document as a .DOC (Word 97-2003) document and resend. This does not apply to faxes that are sent via the RightFax Fax Printer, only faxes that have a Word document attached.
