Reserving the correct TCP/IP Ports for your RightFax 9.x Server

May 1st, 2009

Many RightFax Administrators run into the error 1722 The RPC server is unavailable. Typically the issue is caused by TCP ports that RightFax requires in use by another process. To ensure that these ports are available for RightFax to use, simply follow the three steps listed here to reserve them within the windows registry.

   1. Open regedit

   2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters

   3. Locate the ReservedPorts value name and add the following port ranges to it:

     1052-1062, 10520-10521, 10062-10062, 34987-34988

(if the ReservedPorts value name does not exist then you will want to create it as a new REG_MULTI_SZ value)

You may need to restart the RightFax server if one or more of the needed ports are in use. If you already know which process is using the ports you can stop the process and restart the RightFax RPC Server Module service.

The RightFax 9.4 Product Suite Installation has now included this important procedure within its new advanced setup method. Page 21 of the Installation Guide for RightFax 9.4 discusses this step.
